Use all phases and all parts of the paddle. Some sections will include detail, others will be just a cursory discussion of the issues associated with a particular phase of the stroke.
Be sure to use equation editor for your equations. Use proper reference format. Include your charts with lines marked on them and proper screening of candidate materials.

You will be assigned one of four materials which you will research using the metals handbook and other references as required. The four materials that will be assigned to the class are Ti-6Al-4V, A-6 Tool Steel, 17-4 Precipitation Hardened Stainless Steel and 5083 Aluminum.

Assignment. We have observed that while Zoobs are pretty durable items, the glow in the dark versions have failures of the orbit section of the Zoob. Your role is to draft a memo to the supplier of the plastics and to ask questions that would b reasonable for them to answer to solve your problem. Try to hypothesize a mechanisms for failure.

- Thermal properties of the plastic prior to UV exposure, need to know molecular weight and Crosslink density, concerned about modulus after UV -- thermal analysis, Tg and DMTA
- Expose samples to UV
- Properties of the plastic after UV exposure, need to know molecular weight and Crosslink density. Need to compare modulus after UV exposure.
- Discuss options to maintain modulus with UV exposure, more stable plastic, increase or change in plasticizer.
- We will institute a new material spec, UV stability.
The initial offer of an idea will occur on March 31, 2004, at that time you need to have an idea, and a group to work with. I will respond to the idea during class time.
